Air pollution has received a lot of media coverage recently, it all started with the dust from the Sahara which was blown across parts of England and Wales in April. A cocktail of toxic gases and the Sahara’s fine dust particles created air pollution’s answer to the ‘perfect storm’ which affected many places in England and Wales. It also caused problems for people with breathing problems such as asthma. Now the World Health Organisation (WHO) has published a list which names and shames cities across the globe that breach air pollution safety guidelines. What’s more, 9 of these cities are in Britain! So as you contemplate how much time you spend outside, compared to how much time you spend inside, here’s another sobering thought.......
You may be wondering how this can be? It’s ironic but some of the stuff we use to clean our homes and make them smell fresh may contain airborne pollutants called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and as the name suggests, they do not contribute to the well being of the household. VOC’s can cause the following allergic reactions:
And, as with everything, VOC’s affect some people more than others. So how can you safeguard the air inside your home? The answer is simply by making sure it is ventilated correctly. Sure you can open a few windows but in the long term it’s not practical (especially in winter) and you can't leave them open 24/7.
A condensation control will easily remedy the problem and it will also protect your home against condensation and mould. If you have extractor fans already fitted it may be a good idea to check that they are not clogged up and are performing correctly.
Top tip: If an extractor fan cannot hold a postcard it is not providing sufficient ventilation, ideally you should have it replaced.
EnviroVent’s range of Mr Venty condensation control units work by delivering fresh, filtered and clean air into the home, gently ventilating it using a technique called Positive Input Ventilation (PIV). This method dilutes high levels of humidity and harmful household contaminants, creating a healthy all year round living environment, free from condensation and mould. They are quick and easy to install, energy efficient and if you have just revamped your home, there should be no need for redecoration.
Furthermore, if you decide to replace your existing extractor fan you can take advantage of EnviroVent’s Fan Scrappage Scheme!
