Extractor Fans

Extractor fans are a functional and practical solution for controlling excess humidity, smoke, heat removal or unwanted odours. Fans for bathrooms are generally smaller than those used in kitchens but do come with a timer for more efficient use.

A bathroom is a damp room by definition, so providing proper ventilation is imperative, both for the occupant's health and for the bathroom itself. Renewing the ambient air limits the emergence of any condensation and the appearance of mould all the while reducing the humidity level.

Replacing your fan will improve the ventilation of a bathroom or kitchen and reduce moisture and unwanted odours. Our range of high-performance, efficient systems designed for bathrooms and kitchens includes inline, wall-mounted, and silent extractor fans as well as axial fans.

What do Extractor Fans do? chevron

Bathrooms and kitchens are damp rooms by definition, so providing proper ventilation is imperative, both for the occupant's health and for the bathroom itself. Extractor fans renew the ambient air in a room, which limits the emergence of any condensation and the appearance of mould all the while reducing the humidity level.

Without having effective ventilation in a shower or bathroom where the air is humid, condensation will form and can cause the room to become saturated and mouldy.  Extractor fans quickly remove moist air from the bathroom during and after bathing to prevent condensation.

How to Clean an Extractor Fan - Can it Go in The Dishwasher? chevron

We do not recommend placing any of our products in a dishwasher as it may cause damage.

If you feel there is a problem with the fan due to dust etc, please contact our technical team so we can ensure we rectify the problem.

Will an Extractor Fan Stop Condensation? chevron

Condensation occurs when warm air collides with cold surfaces, or when there's too much humidity in your home. When this moisture-packed warm air comes into contact with a chilly surface, it cools down quickly and releases the water, which turns into liquid droplets on the cold surface. Condensation is caused by a build-up of excess moisture that has nowhere to escape so forms on walls and ceilings.

Extractor fans by design eliminate excess moisture in the air which in turn removes condensation keeping your home well ventilated. High power inline fans work hard at eliminating this moisture and keeping your home condensation free.

In order to ensure you get the right product to address the ventilation problem you are having; we recommend speaking to our dedicated technical team.

Do extractor fans need to vent outside? chevron

Extractor fans play an important role in reducing the amount of moist air that can escape from a damp room into the rest of the house which helps prevent condensation.  Extractor fans should always vent to the exterior of the building, otherwise the moist air that they remove from a bathroom or kitchen will simply be deposited elsewhere in the house and create a condensation or damp problem there.

How powerful should a bathroom extractor fan be? chevron

The minimum extraction rate for an intermittent bathroom fan is 54m³/hr (15l/s) once installed. It is important to ensure the correct fan is specified and installed correctly. For instance, a bathroom with no openable window or no window at all (internal room), the fan should run on for a minimum of 15 minutes. Lengths of flexible ducting should be kept to a minimum and pulled taught.

How powerful should my Kitchen extractor fan be? chevron

The minimum extraction rate for an intermittent kitchen fan can depends on the location of the fan. When installed adjacent to the hob, the fan should extract a minimum of 108m³/hr (30l/s), otherwise this is increased to 216m³/hr (60l/s).

All extract fans should extract to atmosphere. Therefore, where a kitchen is fitted with a recirculating cooker hood an additional extract fan would be required.

The ventilation rates for continuous running extract fans differ from intermittent rates. These rates will differ depending on the size of the dwelling and room type. A ventilation specialist would be able to advise further on these systems.

Do you need an extractor fan in a bathroom with a window? chevron

Although building regulations do not stipulate a fan is required in a bathroom with an openable window, you should still install one if possible.  While a window can help you reduce the amount of moist air in the building, it does not provide the same level of airflow to the exterior of the house that a fan would, and which makes a window much less effective at preventing condensation.

What is The Best Bathroom Extractor Fan? chevron

There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to fitting the right ventilation for your property. Unlike our competitors we won't advise a product without knowing all of your requirements, such as the best location for the fan, wall, ceiling, inline? Grill, roof vent or soffit?

We know that no two properties are the same which is why it is important to ensure the right product is specified and installed correctly. This is why we offer a free home survey as standard to ensure the correct product is installed and you have the best extractor fan.

During a free home survey your local expert will assess any condensation, damp, and mould problems that you may be facing in your property and take readings of the relative humidity levels throughout the property.

All our ventilation specialists are highly trained in carrying out home surveys to identify any underlying problems and make recommendations to ensure the correct solution is provided, all complying with current Building Regulations.
