Cardiff residents have been recognised for the positive impact they have had on their communities by their landlord Wales & West Housing at its annual Making a Difference Awards.

Members of Oakmeadow Court Gardeners, were joint winners with Val Davies, of Cwrt Anghorfa, Pyle, in the Green Fingers category, sponsored by EnviroVent, for the way they have transformed the gardens around their homes.

Sarah Willcox, Environmental Assistant at Wales & West Housing, who nominated the group for the award, said: “The transformation at Oakmeadow Court has been huge. The scheme now looks beautiful and with the hard work of individual residents who have added hanging baskets, borders and lighting, the difference has been amazing.”

Mary Fitzgerald, 71, of the Oakmeadow Court Gardeners, said: “I feel ready to cry. I couldn’t believe it when our name was called out as winners of our category. It’s wonderful.”

Dan Bourke, Ventilation Specialist, with EnviroVent who sponsored the category, said: “EnviroVent is very proud to sponsor the Green Fingers Award, recognising the hard work and dedication applied by all entrants. As the UK’s leading manufacturer of sustainable ventilation solutions, we are passionate about supporting the communities which we work in through local community projects and creating employment opportunities for local people. Through our own manufacturing processes and innovative ventilation products we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, eliminating waste to landfill and working with our clients and their customers to do the same.”

Now in their seventh year, the MAD Awards are a way of recognising the strength, selflessness and community spirit of local residents. Wales & West Housing continue to work with Cardiff County Council to increase the supply of affordable and specialist housing in the area.
