One of the leading ventilation manufacturers EnviroVent is marking Earth Day (22nd April) by donating 1,000 trees to be planted as part of its commitment to the environment, offsetting 300 tonnes of CO2.

The pledge has been made in partnership with the organisation MoreTrees and will see EnviroVent commit to sponsoring the planting of 5,000 trees in the next 12 months as part of the company’s wider Planet Friendly campaign.  This equates to around 1,500 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide removed from the atmosphere, which would mean the company could offset its carbon footprint within 9-10 years.

EnviroVent will also plant one tree for each ATMOS® whole house ventilation system the company sells into a homeowner’s property (including landlords and letting agents) over the next 12 months.

To further boost the number of trees it plants, EnviroVent will also be hosting a range of fundraising activities amongst its staff.

Jane McLean, Quality & Environmental Systems Manager at EnviroVent, explains: “We are really excited to be launching our new partnership with MoreTrees on Earth Day – as a business, we’re 100 per cent committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We have been focused on reducing our impact on the environment for many years and this initiative, as part of our Planet Friendly campaign, shows a further commitment to sustainability which means those buying our ventilation systems can be safe in the knowledge they are giving back to the planet.”

She adds: “In addition to planting new trees for every ATMOS® whole house ventilation system sold into a homeowner’s property, we’ll also continue to find new ways to champion the environment and continuing our current commitments.”

EnviroVent selected MoreTrees as its tree planting partner for many reasons. MoreTrees has close relationships with regulated non-profit NGOs (non-government organisations) across the world, who work with local communities to plant trees in forests while reducing extreme poverty and combating deforestation.

The organisation supports the local community and people, providing jobs and a fair wage in the location of where the trees are planted. The trees it plants are managed for life to ensure longevity.

Each tree planted absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while also overcoming the negative effects of deforestation. With just one mangrove tree offsets 0.3 tonnes of CO2 over its growth life – which is the same as driving 732.9 miles in a standard car – this means that 1,000 trees = 300 tonnes of carbon over the trees' 25-year growth life.

Niki Tibble, co-Founder of MoreTrees, says: “Our vision when we launched was to make planting trees easy and affordable for all businesses – from start-ups to multi-national firms. We’ve made it possible to plant a tree for £1 and businesses can choose how this happens. We’re delighted that EnviroVent has made the decision to get involved.”

With MoreTrees, it’s not just carbon that is being offset, for every tree planted it provides farms with work to support the local economy; it protects animals from loss of habitat through deforestation and it increases rainfall, purifies water and improves crop yield.

The organisation hires and trains villagers to plant trees, giving them a consistent income to provide for their families and support the local economy.
