The programme began with a pilot scheme involving 55 properties, where the EnviroVent Positive Input Ventilation units were selected. It was then anticipated to be rolled out across the rest of Cartrefi Conwy’s housing stock to meet the Welsh Assembly Government’s new housing quality standards by the end of 2012.
Following the success of the pilot scheme, Cartrefi Conwy went onto specify EnviroVent as its approved ventilation supplier for the main improvement programme. This was down to EnviroVent’s philosophy towards manufacturing innovative, environmentally friendly solutions that provide attractive long term benefits such as reduced carbon emissions, low life- cycle and maintenance costs.
In addition, Cartrefi Conwy not only wanted products that would solve condensation and mould problems to protect the internal fabric of their properties, but they also wanted to create a healthy living environment for their tenants. As the scheme included improvements such as insulation and cladding to prevent the loss of heat, the requirement for good, energy efficient ventilation was paramount.
Wayne Bannister, Cartrefi Conwy’s Improvements Contract Manager, said;
“The home improvement programme has gone very well. Up until now we have installed over 2000 EnviroVent units and we are pleased with the results. Incidents of damp and condensation have reduced. As a landlord, Cartrefi Conwy is proud of the fact that by installing EnviroVent’s PIV Units we are improving the air quality and, therefore the standard of living for our tenants.”
As part of the Lifetime Range®, the EnviroVent PIV units have been uniquely and innovatively designed so that any time after the 5 years, the maintenance and replacement occurs by simply exchanging the worn out components, which are then taken back to the factory to be either reworked or recycled.
By specifying EnviroVent’s PIV Units across its 3800 homes and looking towards a long term investment, Cartrefi Conwy can look forward to saving a staggering £3.9million in replacement costs over a 25 year period. This would save 19,000 replacement units, equivalent to 36 fully loaded 20-foot containers going to landfill sites.
The weight of plastic that would be saved in the injection moulding process would be 108,300Kg and the energy cost in producing it would be £16,245 amounting to 46 tonnes of CO2.
