Charity begins at work, not just home

We’re very fortunate to be a thriving, healthy business. It’s something we never take for granted though. Being successful and having a great team of people puts us in the perfect position to be able to help others who might need it. We have an extensive Charitable Giving Programme that involves all our staff; we donate and fundraise for charities. Not just in our hometown of Harrogate, but also Stockton, Liverpool and Scarborough, as well as nationally.

St Michael’s Hospice

We’ve been proud patrons of St. Michael’s Hospice since 2013 and donate £6,000 annually. St. Michael’s provides support and guidance to people and their and families who’ve been affected by a terminal illness, ensuring they get the high quality end of life care they want, need and deserve. A stone’s throw from our Head Office, we donate and are involved in additional fundraising activities across the year to boost donations. These include anything from cake sales and beer festivals to enterprise challenges and sponsored runs.

Donated since 2013: £55,000

Charity of the Year

We’re always encouraging our colleagues to put forward charities that mean so much to them and deserve our support. So, at the end of each year, we release a list of their charities for everyone to vote for the EnviroVent “Charity of the Year”. This charity is then our main focus for raising donations through charitable activities throughout the entire year. Fundraising events and activities can be anything from cake sales and park runs to boat races and beer festivals.

Donated since 2018: £4,523

Christmas Fundraising

Christmas is the time for giving and we are very lucky to have such incredibly generous suppliers who donate gifts to us on the run up to the festive season. We collect these gifts together and put them into a raffle which takes place just before we finish work for Christmas. Anyone form colleagues, customers and suppliers can buy raffle tickets throughout December and all proceeds are donated to our “Charity of the Year”.

Donated since 2017: £1,993

International Day

We’re an incredibly diverse company. From a team of less than 250, we have 13 nationalities present. We feel this warrants celebration, which is why once a year, we have a day to celebrate the variety of nationalities within our team where people are encouraged to make dishes from their native countries. This gives everyone an incredible appetite to sample and appreciate an amazing diversity of delicious dishes. For each dish sampled, colleagues donate £1 to the nominated charity.

Donated since 2017: £343

Cake Sales

Our appetite for helping charities is almost matched by our appetite for cake. We are keen participants of a number of cake sales across the year and have done since 2017. A major one is the Macmillan Coffee Morning which we get baking for every September where we really dedicate ourselves to eating a lot of cake all in the name of charity.

Raised since 2017: £510

Claro Enterprises

Claro Enterprises is a charitable organisation which provides work for adults with learning difficulties. We’ve been lucky enough to work with Claro Enterprises since 2010 and over this time, we’ve provided elements such as those for fixing kits that go with our units to Claro Enterprises to produce. Since working with Claro Enterprises, we have provided over a hundred thousand pounds in paid work.

Paid work since 2010: £122,665

Printer Toner Waste

Our sustainability pages show just how conscious we are of our environmental footprint. That’s why all of our printer cartridges are collected by Office Xpress who recycle and reuse them, which in turn helps to fund charities, including Leeds Children’s Hospital. One single cartridge emits around 4.8kg of CO2, meaning each year, we’ve stopped the production of approximately 720kg of CO2 emissions – 1,440 bathtubs full!

Cartridges recycled annually: 150-200

IT Recycling

We know that IT equipment, whilst vital to running our business, uses a lot of resources in it's manufacture. That is why we have a policy of only updating our IT equipment when we absolutely need to. When we do upgrade, we try hard to ensure that wherever possible, old IT equipment or parts are reworked, reused or donated to charity.

Charity Installation

We recently worked alongside Green Pastures which enables charities and churches to house the homeless and community workers. We also recently installed our PIV units free of charge in houses for community workers who work with the Eden Team charity and Stockton Baptist Church. They help with the rehabilitation of addicts, assisting the homeless and mentoring offenders on probation.

St Mary’s Lodge

St Mary’s Lodge is a housing development for the over 60s in Scarborough, owned by Sanctuary Housing. We saw an appeal by Sanctuary housing asking for help to replace their old greenhouse which was in poor condition. We donated a brand new greenhouse which the residents now grow their crops in.

Down Syndrome Society

We have had the pleasure of supporting several events at the St Helen’s Leisure Club in Liverpool on behalf of children living with Down Syndrome. We supported the event by donating all the food, whilst one of our employees revealed one their hidden talents by providing some incredible magic tricks.

Internal Heroes

It’s really wonderful that many of our employees care enough to participate in their own charity giving. EnviroVent has supported employees in raising funds for marathons and gifted time for them to give back to charities. Our “Internal Heroes” are quite literally magic. For example, for 3 years, we’ve supported them with several magic events at Stanley Park & Sefton Park for local residents of Liverpool plus similar events on behalf of Isle of Anglesey Council on behalf of the Council’s Tenant Groups.
