What to Expect During a Free Home Survey

What Happens During a Free Home Survey with EnviroVent

When you book a free home survey with EnviroVent, our goal is simple: to understand the root cause of condensation, damp, or mould in your property and provide expert, tailored advice. Here’s what to expect, step by step:

1. Initial Contact & Booking

Once you request a free survey, one of our local ventilation specialists will get in touch to discuss your concerns. We’ll arrange a convenient time to visit your home and explain what the survey will involve. This first conversation ensures you know we are coming as specialists—not salespeople—focused on finding the right solution for your property.

2. Exterior Check of Your Property

Before stepping inside, our surveyor will carry out a quick visual inspection of the outside of your home. This helps us understand important factors such as:

  • The building height and wall construction.
  • Guttering, roof details, and any signs of penetrating damp.
  • External pipes, flues, or extensions that may affect ventilation.

Spotting these issues early helps us identify whether moisture problems may be linked to external factors, not just indoor humidity.

3. Friendly Introduction & Discussion

On arrival, the surveyor will introduce themselves, show their EnviroVent ID, and put on shoe covers to respect your home. They’ll begin with a discussion about your concerns—asking about the history of the property, the type of issues you’ve experienced, and who lives in the home. This stage helps us build a full picture, as lifestyle factors (such as occupancy levels, heating use, or pets) can all influence indoor air quality.

4. Comprehensive Indoor Survey

Next, the surveyor will carry out a room-by-room inspection of your property, including loft space, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and even the consumer unit (fuse board). During this stage they will:

  • Visually inspect for mould, condensation, and signs of poor ventilation.
  • Take readings of temperature and relative humidity in different rooms to identify cold spots and problem areas.
  • Check existing fans or ventilation systems using an anemometer (airflow meter) to measure whether they’re working to the correct performance levels.
  • Look at practical details like loft suitability, access points, and electrical safety (without removing covers).

By the end of this process, we have a clear technical understanding of how your home is performing.

5. Explaining Findings

Our specialists believe in being open and transparent. As they move through the property, they’ll point out what they see—from areas of mould growth to temperature differences between walls—so you understand why issues are happening. They’ll explain how everyday factors such as north-facing walls, heating habits, or even aquariums can contribute to moisture levels.

6. Product Demonstration & Recommendations

After gathering all the information, your surveyor will recommend the most suitable solution for your home. They’ll:

  • Show you how the proposed product works, using real samples where possible.
  • Explain the benefits, operation, and maintenance in plain language.
  • Be clear about installation requirements, such as access to loft spaces or the need for additional vents.

The aim is not only to recommend the right product, but also to make sure you know exactly what to expect.

7. Survey Report & Next Steps

Following your visit, as the owner or letting agent, you will receive a copy of the comprehensive survey report summarising the findings. This includes recommended solutions.

We’ll also explain the next steps clearly—from arranging installation to any small remedial works that may be needed before fitting.
