Why Fuel Poverty Is A Major Problem For UK Households
The Government’s definition of fuel poverty is a household which needs to spend more than 10% of its annual income to keep the home in a warm condition.

In order to address climate change, the UK Government has reacted strongly to enforce stringent legislation to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse emissions by 2050. As 25% of carbon emissions come from homes and a further 17% from non-domestic buildings, every household and business, both public and private must increase their energy efficiency levels.

As we construct or refurbish our homes in-line with stringent building regulations to become more energy efficient, the improvements made by adding cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and double glazing can actually work against us. By implementing these various improvements we have effectively ‘sealed up’ our homes and by doing so create poor ventilation, which can lead to condensation problems and mould problems.
