EnviroVent Helps Port Talbot Sea Cadets With Revamp

The Sea Cadets in Port Talbot have had their rundown base revamped. The group’s grade two listed centre at the old docks in Port Talbot looked impressive from the outside but inside it was in desperate need of a makeover.

Due to many cadets using the facilities over the years and little funding available, the centre was in need of a new kitchen, range cooker, boiler and toilet facilities, as well as some decoration work.

Mi-Space, who were involved in bringing NPT Homes properties in Port Talbot up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard, heard about the centre and wanted to help.

Mi-Space community engagement manager Michelle Cole said: “As soon as we were made aware of the Port Talbot Sea Cadets centre we wanted to help, as it provides an excellent environment in which local young people and volunteers alike can thrive. By working in partnership with our generous sub-contractors, suppliers and other organisations, we have successfully refurbished the kitchen and given a facelift to the outside space at the centre without them spending a penny.”

Sustainable ventilation manufacturer, EnviroVent, who are currently working alongside Mi-Space on the NPT Homes Project, fitted a SILENT 150 extract fan, chosen by the main contractor for its whisper quiet running and exceptional performance.

Jonathan Morris, tenant empowerment and regeneration manager at NPT Homes, said: “From day one we have said our investment programme isn’t just about improving people’s homes but the wider community also. This is a great example of our contractors working with other local companies to make a real difference to people on our estates.”

Prior to the work commencing, the MSS Group carried out an asbestos survey, to ensure it was safe to carry out the refurbishment. With electrical work, plumbing, plastering, kitchen fitting, tiling, decoration and glazing all happening within the space of just five days, the Sea Cadets centre was a busy and exciting place to be!

The subcontractors and supply chain members who were so generous are as follows: Rixonway Kitchens, GGL Electrical Ltd, Antlin Plumbing & Heating Ltd, RPJ Builders, WR Jones Ltd, Advanced Waste Solutions Ltd, Silverseal Ltd, MSS Group Ltd, Robert Price Ltd, Speedyhire, Direct Supplies Ltd, ACROW de Cymru and EnviroVent Ltd.
